520 _aThe India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC) emerged in September 2023 as a potential alternative to China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). This ambitious project aims to boost connectivity and trade between Asia, the Gulf and Europe. IMEC constitutes a strategic opportunity to diversify and develop new economic corridors between Europe and Asia. This involves transport, digital and telecommunications connectivity via a high-speed data pipeline, as well as a common renewable electricity grid and a green hydrogen pipeline.
